Tally had always dreamed of a rooftop bar wedding and Josh knew the perfect place! This was the first time The Rook in Sydney hosted a wedding ceremony and reception. Tally likes the bar because “it has a really funky, relaxed vibe.” It is rustic and moody with lots of quirky decor too.
Tally and Josh are self-confessed nerds with their love of the game Dungeons and Dragons and cult classic Star Wars. Therefore, it was not a surprise when they chose ‘May the 4th’ as their wedding date. Star Wars details included a Darth Vader vase and self-made Lego bride/groom holding lightsabers as the cake toppers. An adorable R2D2 welcomed guests on arrival. Even their wedding rings were placed in ‘light side’ / ‘dark side’ looking boxes.
As a graphic designer Tally was able to use her creative talents to style the reception and her bouquet. After a miscommunication with the stylist, Tally had to go out and buy everything the week of the wedding and put it together! She was lucky she booked a character-filled venue so not much was needed compared to other blank canvas venues.
After that huge challenge with the styling, nothing was going to stop this wedding from happening! On the night, a fire started at the nearby train station and all stations in the city were closed. The city was bumper to bumper with roads closed off too. But the guests arrived early and everyone else was on time. The wedding was certainly going ahead despite the chaos outside. Well done Tally and Josh – the force is obviously strong with this union.
